Nikki Macpherson TherapyCounsellor and Psychotherapist in Kingston Upon Thames

MY BACKGROUND

I hold a Masters in Gestalt Psychotherapy and a post-graduate diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapeutic Counselling . I trained at the Metanoia Institute, a leading centre for psychotherapy training in the UK. I am a registered psychotherapist with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP); and am also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

Although I now only work in private practice, I worked for several years at a private counselling agency and at Community Housing and Therapy. This is a therapeutic community supporting people who live with severe and enduring mental health conditions including personality disorders, mood disorders and psychosis.

My interest in understanding how people live and make sense of their lives (including my own) led me to study psychology and psychotherapy. This involved looking in depth at understanding the human condition from various view points and in deepening and broadening my ways of working with people. I have a passion for helping people understand themselves and in navigating life's journey creatively.

Initially I trained as a Medical Speech and Language Therapist and have worked for many years with adults in various NHS settings and private hospitals where I continue to work in this field. Here my expertise is in acute and intensive care medicine, mental health, rehabilitation and palliative care.

I resource myself through my yoga and meditation practice which supports my capacity to listen deeply. I also attend to self-care through my running practice and explore my creativity through a range of media. I read widely, and enjoy the performing arts and comedy. I've been fortunate enough to travel getting to know different cultures, and have an appreciation for ancient architecture. I find my ground by water and in nature.
